GYMNASTICS SIGNS BELKOFF AND CATOUR TO LETTERS OF INTENT

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State gymnastics team has signed Alexis Belkoff and Tara Catour to National Letters of Intent, it was announced by head coach Randy Solorio. The pair will both enroll at Sacramento State as freshmen in the fall of 2016.

Belkoff comes to the Hornets from the Arizona Dynnamics club in Tucson, Ariz. In 2015, she was the Level 10 vault champion at the National Invitational Tournament meet and finished second at the Level 10 state championships. Belkoff qualified for the Western Nationals in 2013 and 2014 and was named the Arizona Level 9 Gymnast of the Year in 2014. While competing at Level 9, she was the state champion in 2014, was also the regional bar champion, and placed second at the Western Regional.

Catour trained at Desert Lights Gymnastics in Chandler, Ariz., for the past 15 years. She was the Arizona Level 10 state champion on floor in 2015 and also qualified to the NIT that year where she medaled on floor and beam. Her performances helped lead her club to the Arizona Level 10 state championship in 2015.

"I see both Alexis and Tara being great all-arounders," head coach Randy Solorio said. "Both of them should be able to jump right in and contribute during their first season with the team."

Belkoff and Catour will both become the second members of their families to compete in Div. I gymnastics. Alexis' sister, Corinne, is currently a freshman at Arizona State. Tara's sister, Stefani, is a sophomore at Oklahoma.

"I think having older sisters that are currently competing in college is a big advantage," Solorio said. "Both of them know what college gymnastics is all about and what it takes to be successful."

Sacramento State opens its 2016 season at the NorCal Classic on Jan. 10 at San Jose State. The team's first home meet of the season will be on Jan. 29 against UC Davis.
