SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State redshirt freshman Jesse Williams was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnastics Newcomer of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the first for Williams this season and the second for the Hornets as she joins Julia Konner.
In the most recent meet against UC Davis and Alaska Anchorage, Williams set a career high with an all-around score of 39.050. That total helped Sacramento State score a season high of 195.275 which was the best in the meet.
Williams began the meet with a 9.800 on vault where she tied for third place. She then tied for second on bars with a career high of 9.825. A 9.625 on beam placed her 10th in the meet before closing out the competition on floor with a 9.800 which tied for fourth.
The Saugus, Calif., native surpassed the 39-point plateau for the first time in her career and finished second in the all-around by .025 points — the narrowest of margins in gymnastics.
Sacramento State will next compete at San Jose State on Friday night in the final regular season competition of the team. The team will travel to UC Davis for the MPSF Championships on March 22.
