GYMNASTICS WELCOMES SJSU AND CAL FOR VALENTINE'S DAY MEET

Complete Version (PDF)

OPENING PASS
• Sacramento State will host its lone meet in the month of February when it welcomes San Jose State and California on Friday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. in The Nest. The meet was originally scheduled to be a dual between SJSU and the Hornets but Cal was added early this week. The Golden Bears were slated to compete at Oregon State last weekend but the meet was cancelled due to snow.

• For those unable to attend, a free live video stream and live stats will be available through hornetsports.com. The video stream will focus on Sacramento State athletes but will include other competitors when possible.

• This week's meet will also serve as the team's Pink Meet as well as the Alumni Meet. Sacramento State will wear special leotards during the meet to help raise awareness for cancer.

• Sacramento State was able to edge past Seattle Pacific for a road win on Friday, Feb. 7. The Hornets scored 192.675 and counted two falls on floor to make the meet much closer.

• Individually, Kalliah McCartney was first on vault, Kailey Hansen won on beam and Katie Osaki finished on top on floor.

A LOOK AT THE OPPONENTS
• San Jose State is ranked 28th nationally and is coming off a 194.950-194.200 win against UC Davis on Friday. Bekah Gher finished first on the vault (9.850) and beam (9.850) and also won the all-around (39.150).

• This will be the third of five meetings between Sacramento State and SJSU this season. The teams have split the previous two with the Hornets prevailing at the NorCal Classic and the Spartans winning in Tempe, Ariz. The teams will also meet in San Jose and at the MPSF Championships. Sacramento State holds a 43-38-1 lead in the all-time series.

• Cal has not competed since Jan. 31 when it lost to UCLA (196.575-195.550). The Golden Bears are 2-5 on the season but each of its losses have come against teams ranked in the top 22.

• Including its win at the NorCal Classic against the Hornets, Cal leads the all-time series, 17-8.

OSAKI EARNS FIRST VICTORY
Katie Osaki has been a regular for Sacramento State on vault and floor during her four years with the team. The senior earned her first event victory on Friday night after tying for the top spot on floor with SPU's Kai Tindall. Osaki opened the rotation with a 9.750 for the Hornets and that score held throughout the meet.

This season, the Elk Grove, Calif., native has averaged 9.708 on floor with all six of her scores ranging from 9.625 to 9.775. She has also been a key component on vault where she averages 9.679.

WONDERFUL WILLIAMS
Jesse Williams began 2013 with expectations of cracking the lineup as a true freshman. Those hopes were dashed early on when she suffered a foot injury ended her season just three meets into the year. Williams returned healthy in 2014 and has seen her scores soar in the last two meet. At UC Davis on Jan. 31, the redshirt freshman scored a career high 9.825 on vault. This past week, Williams set her career best on beam with a 9.775 and also matched that score on vault — she placed second on both events. Williams also scored 9.700 on bars which to finish third.

BACK TO HER OLD SELF
Another gymnast who appears to be getting healthy is Kailey Hansen. The senior competed on floor at Seattle Pacific for the first time since the season opener. Hansen scored 9.725 to place third. The Ventura, Calif., native was also earned her second victory of the season on beam (9.800) and tied for third on vault (9.750).

Hansen began her collegiate career at Washington but transferred to Sacramento State after redshirting in 2010. She has been a regional qualifier each of her three previous seasons with the team as a specialist on floor in 2011 and 2012 and on beam in 2013.
