GYMNASTICS FALLS AT UC DAVIS, 195.500-193.575

DAVIS, Calif. — Kalliah McCartney finished first on vault but it was not enough as Sacramento State fell to UC Davis, 195.500-193.575, Friday night at The Pavilion.

Sacramento State opened on bars with a 48.400 but trailed UC Davis by .350 after the Aggies scored 48.750 on vault. The Hornets were steady throughout the rotation, counting five scores of at least 9.625. McCartney scored 9.775 to lead the team and tie for fourth in the meet. Paige Bottano added a 9.700 and Brennan Bailes and Ashley Wooff each scored 9.650.

The score differential remained the same through the second rotation as both teams scored 49.000 on their respective events. McCartney anchored the vault lineup with a 9.850 to win the event. Jesse Williams, who stepped in during warmups for the injured Julia Konner, placed second overall with a career high 9.825. Kailey Hansen and Tina Necas each received 9.800s to finish in a four-way tie for third.

Sacramento State saw the meet slip away during the third rotation as UCD scored 49.025 on beam compared to a 47.725 on floor for the Hornets. Dallas Smith guided Sacramento State with a 9.800 and was followed by 9.625s from Katie Osaki and Maddie Montoya.

The Hornets were unable to make up any ground during the final rotation as the team was forced to count a fall on beam. Sacramento State finished the rotation with a 48.450 while the Aggies compiled a 49.625 on floor. Kailey Hansen tied for second overall with a 9.825 and Cassie Benning and Dallas Smith finished tied for sixth at 9.800.

UC Davis had the high score on bars, beam, floor and in the all-around. Lisa Wiktorski finished first on bars at 9.8725. Dani Judal received a 9.850 to take beam and Stephanie Stamates won floor with a 9.850. Tiana Montell captured the all-around with a four-event total of 39.050.

Sacramento State will next compete at Seattle Pacific on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.

NOTES: Julia Konner was injured during the warm-up for vault and was unable to return to the competition…UC Davis earned 1.25 points towards the Causeway Cup. The Aggies now lead the all-sports competition 38.75-23.75.
