GYMNASTICS RALLIES TO EDGE SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Julia Konner and Dallas Smith each claimed individual event victories and Kalliah McCartney finished first in the all-around as Sacramento State edged Southeast Missouri by a half a tenth of a point (193.150-193.100) on Friday night at The Nest. The score was the second highest for the Hornets this season.

Sacramento State opened the meet on beam with a score of 48.475 but trailed the Redhawks after the first rotation by .150. Konner matched her career high with a 9.800 and McCartney placed second with a 9.775.

The Hornets took their first lead of the night after the second rotation. Sacramento State scored a season high 48.900 on bars and counted five scores of 9.750 or better. Jesse Williams set a career mark with 9.825 to place second and Kaila Kilwein was third with a 9.800. Sophomore Paige Bottano also set a career high (9.775) and sophomore Brennan Bailes matched her career best (9.750) to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Redhawks retook the lead following the third rotation, 145.200-144.950. Sacramento State began with a 9.650 from Kayla Wonderly and a 9.625 from Smith. After a fall, Elideth Guerrero recorded a 9.600. The team was then forced to count a fall before McCartney righted the ship with a 9.700 which placed her second overall.

The fourth rotation saw the score flip flop between the two teams as SEMO headed to beam and the Hornets were on floor. Osaki scored 9.700 before Sacramento State endured the first of two falls. Southeast Missouri also had a fall in the early going but stayed on beam over its final four routines to take a lead.

Smith pulled the Hornets within striking distance, scoring a career high 9.875 to record her first career victory on floor. Needing a 9.8 to tie the meet, McCartney received a 9.850 which placed her second overall and gave the team the victory.

That score also helped McCartney score a season best 39.075 to win the all-around.

SEMO was led by wins from Taryn Vanderpool (9.875 on bars) and Alyssa Tucker (9.725 on beam).
