GYMNASTICS EARNS TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL ACADEMIC HONORS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State gymnastics teams does not limit its high scores to competition as the team finished with the 17th best grade point average and had 12 individuals recognized by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W).

The Hornets combined for a 3.4917 gpa during the 2012-13 academic year to earn its highest national finish. The score was the second highest among California-based teams, trailing only San Jose State's 3.5146. The team's gpa was also the highest among the 21 intercollegiate sports at Sacramento State.

"I'm very proud to have the team receive this honor," Sacramento State head coach Kim Hughes said. "The individuals on our team put a lot of pride in being able to balance life as a college student as well as Div. I athletes and work very hard to be successful in both aspects."

In addition to the team award, 12 individuals were named to the NACGC/W All-Academic Team after earning a minimum 3.5 gpa. The 12 honorees match the 2010 team for the most in school history.
