    Junior Kalliah McCartney will make Sacramento State history when she competes in the first session of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships on Friday in Birmingham, Ala. McCartney will begin the competition at 11 a.m. PDT in BJCC Arena.

    Sacramento State junior Kalliah McCartney became the first Hornet gymnast to qualify for the NCAA Championships after placing sixth in the all-around at the Seattle Regional on Saturday at the University of Washington.

    An unprecedented seven Sacramento State gymnasts will compete in the NCAA postseason beginning on Saturday, April 5, at the NCAA Seattle Regional. The meet will begin at 4 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Arena on the University of Washington campus.

    Sacramento State redshirt freshman Jesse Williams was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnastics Newcomer of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the first for Williams this season and the second for the Hornets as she joins Julia Konner.

    Junior Kalliah McCartney tied for first on vault and was the sole winner on bars and beam to guide the Sacramento State gymnastics team to a season high 195.275 on Friday night at The Nest. The score, which was tied for the seventh best in school history, gave the Hornets wins over No. 30 UC Davis (194.800) and Alaska Anchorage (188.550).

    The Sacramento State gymnastics team will make its final regular season trip out of Northern California this season year when it heads to Logan, Utah, to face Utah State on Friday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. PT. Following this week’s meet, the Hornets will compete at home on March 7, at San Jose State (March 14) and at UC Davis for the MPSF Championships (March 22).

    Kalliah McCartney tied for first on vault to lead the Sacramento State gymnastics team on Saturday night at Cal. The Hornets could not overcome a rough first rotation on beam and finished third with a team score of 193.425. Cal won the meet at 196.426 while Washington was second at 195.000.

    Sacramento State gymnast Kailey Hansen was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Specialist of the Week, it was announced today. The weekly award is the second for Hansen this season as she was the MPSF Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 8.

    Sacramento State scored a season high 194.900 but finished third as No. 26 California and No. 28 San Jose State also posted their highest scores of the year on Friday night at The Nest. The Golden Bears won the meet with a total of 196.725 while the Spartans came in second at 195.725.

    Sacramento State will host its lone meet in the month of February when it welcomes San Jose State and California on Friday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. in The Nest. The meet was originally scheduled to be a dual between SJSU and the Hornets but Cal was added early this week. The Golden Bears were slated to compete at Oregon State last weekend but the meet was cancelled due to snow.

    Sacramento State will make the short trip across the Causeway to face UC Davis in the second of four meetings this season. The meet will take place at The Pavilion on Friday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. The winner of the meet will receive 1.25 points towards the ScholarShare Causeway Cup.

    Julia Konner and Dallas Smith each claimed individual event victories and Kalliah McCartney finished first in the all-around as Sacramento State edged Southeast Missouri by a half a tenth of a point (193.150-193.100) on Friday night at The Nest. The score was the second highest for the Hornets this season.

    The Sacramento State gymnastics team scored 192.450 but placed third in a three-team meet at Stanford on Sunday afternoon. The host, and 12th-ranked Cardinal won the meet with a total of 195.925 edging No. 19 Arizona (195.850) by .075 points.
