Women's Gymnastics


CEDAR CITY, Utah — Sacramento State scored a season high 195.500 to finish third at the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday night at Southern Utah. The score is the third highest in school history and the best since scoring 195.675 at last year's WAC Championships.

Boise State won the competition with a team score of 196.225. Denver, which was the highest ranked team in the field, finished second just one tenth back at 196.125. The rest of the field consisted of Utah State (195.100), Southern Utah (194.925) and San Jose State (194.700).

Sacramento State opened the meet on vault and totaled 48.925. All six Hornet gymnasts scored 9.725 or higher. Included in that total were 9.800s from Nicole Meiller and Maddie Montaya and a 9.850 by Kalliah McCartney.

On bars, the Hornets scored a season high 49.075 which is tied for fifth in school history. Senior Nicole Meiller led the way with a 9.875 which tied for fourth place and helped her earn second team all-WAC honors. Kaila Kilwein and Ashley Wooff each received 9.750s to tie for second on the team while Cayla Beutler and Paige Bottano scored 9.700.

Sacramento State recorded its second straight top 10 mark on beam in the last two meets. The team totaled 48.925 which ranks 10th in the Hornet record book. Beutler finished in a three-way tie with Boise State's Caitlin Mann and San Jose State's Cami Guyer for the individual title on beam. The senior also finished first on beam at the 2010 championships. Kailey Hansen, who was the 2012 WAC champion on beam, scored 9.800 to tie for seventh. Elideth Guerrero and McCartney each added 9.775s and Dallas Smith scored 9.725.

The Hornets wrapped up the meet on floor with a total of 48.875. McCartney led the team high with a 9.825 and was closely followed by a 9.800 from Beutler and a 9.775 by Hansen. The final two team scores were a 9.750 from Katie Osaki and Smith's 9.725.

Associate head coach Randy Solorio and assistant coach Tanya Ho led Sacramento State at the meet as head coach Kim Hughes remained in Sacramento due to pneumonia.
