WOMEN'S GOLF MAKES MOVE DURING FINAL ROUND OF ANTEATER INVITATIONAL

DOVE CANYON, Calif. — Julie Shutler shot 75 and Justine Chen 76 to lead the Sacramento State women's golf team during the third round of the Anteater Invitational on Tuesday. The pair sparked a charge from the Hornets to lift the team to eighth place in the field.
Sacramento State shot 308 as a team during the third round to tie for the fourth lowest in the 15-team field. The team's efforts moved it ahead of fellow Big Sky Conference opponents Portland State and Montana. The Hornets finished the 54-hole tournament with a total of 316-314-308-938.
Washington State maintained its first day lead and pulled away from BYU to win the team title. WSU totaled 904 compared to 910 from BYU. Idaho State was third at 915 followed by 915 from UC Irvine. Long Beach State and UC Riverside tied for fifth at 921.
Shutler provided the low score for the team in each round. The senior finished tied for 12th after carding rounds of 78-86-75-229. Chen tied for 21st place at 78-78-76-232.
Freshman Sagee Palavivatana shot 77 on Tuesday to move into a tie for 36th with a 54-hole total of 236. Kercia Brakel tied for 49th at 81-80-80-241 and Lexie Hall was 75th at 89-85-83-257.
Mallory Kent of Washington State was the medalist after shooting 71-75-74-220. UC Riverside's Emila Ek was one stroke back in second place.
Sacramento State will next compete at the Cowgirl Classic on April 9-11. The tournament, which will take place at the Ocotillo Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz., will give the team a trial run on the same course that is used for the Big Sky Championships.
