SAFFOLD AND DIAS LEAD THE WAY FOR WOMEN'S GOLF AT COWGIRL CLASSIC

CHANDLER, Ariz. —
 Samantha Saffold and Ellese Dias each shot 75 to lead the Sacramento State women's golf team in the final round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, Tuesday at the Ocotillo Golf Resort.

Saffold finished the 54-hole event at 73-78-75-226 which tied her for 19th. On Tuesday, she began her round on the 10th hole and stood a 1-under through four holes following a birdie on the par-3 12th. The senior finished her first nine holes at 2-over after a double-bogey on the par-4 14th and a bogey on the par-4 17th. On holes 1-9, Saffold carded eight pars and one bogey.

Dias' round bettered her career low by one stroke. The freshman was even through her first nine holes before bogeying the par-4 2nd. She then parred the next two holes and moved back to even with a birdie on the par-4 5th. However, Dias bogeyed three of her final five holes to finish at 3-over. For the tournament, Dias shot 78-80-75-233 to tie for 42nd.

Sacramento State also counted a 79 from Julie Shutler and an 80 from Kercia Brakel. Shutler was 5-over through her first eight holes but steadied herself with 10 pars and two bogeys over her final 10 holes.

Brakel posted her best round of the tournament on Tuesday. The sophomore had one birdie, 10 pars, six bogeys and a double bogey.

As a team, Sacramento State finished in 15th place. The Hornets shot 309-320-309-938. Portland State not only maintained its first day lead, the Vikings totaled the low score on Tuesday and ended the tournament at 294287-290. New Mexico State (899), BYU (902), UTEP (906) and Northern Arizona (908) completed the top five.

Northern Colorado's Carleigh Silvers shot 69 on Tuesday to move into a tie for first place along with Portland State's Britney Yada. The pair each totaled 213 and were three strokes better than the closest competitor.

Sacramento State will return to Ocotillo on April 18-20 for the Big Sky Championships. The winner of the Big Sky tournament will claim the automatic berth to the NCAA regional.
