GREEN AND SHUTLER GUIDE WOMEN'S GOLF IN FINAL ROUND AT IOWA

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Brooke Green and Julie Shutler each shot 78 to lead the Sacramento State women’s golf team in the final round of the Hawkeye Intercollegiate on Sunday. The Hornets shot 325 in the round as a team and finished in 10th place overall.
Green recorded her lowest round of the 54-hole tournament on Sunday and finished tied for 27th overall at 80-80-78-238. The junior played the front nine even, including consecutive birdies on the sixth and seventh. However three bogeys and a triple-bogey on the back nine left her at six over for the round.
Shutler bounced back from an 83 in the second round to continue a strong start to her freshman season. Her total of 79-83-78-240 tied her for 36th overall. Sophomore Samantha Saffold tied for 30th with rounds of 81-77-81.
Freshmen Justin Chen and Sasha Cruz each had their troubles on Sunday. Chen shot 88 after posting rounds of 78 and 80 on Saturday and finished tied for 57th. Cruz carded a round of 90 and tied for 73rd with a total of 254.
Ball State, which entered the final round tied with host Iowa, pulled away for the team title. The Cardinals shot 309-303-309-921 and finished five strokes ahead of the Hawkeyes. Northern Iowa (929), Wisconsin (935) and Illinois State (944) completed the top five.
Drake’s Olivia Lansing shot 71-76-75-222 to become the medalist. Her total was three strokes ahead of Longwood’s Mary Carmody (77-75-73-225) who was second.
The Hornets will next compete at the Cal Poly Invitational beginning on Nov. 3.
