PARKES PACES WOMEN'S GOLF AT ANTEATER INVITATIONAL

 IRVINE, Calif. — Senior Jennifer Parkes shot 76 in the third and final round to lead Sacramento State at the Anteater Invitational on Tuesday. Parkes tied for 17th overall and guided the Hornets to a seventh-place team showing in the 54-hole tournament at the Dove Canyon Country Club.
Host UC Irvine won the team title with a total of 909. San Jose State was second at 939 and was followed by Mississippi (948), Nevada (953) and UC Davis (954). Sacramento State shot rounds of 328, 319, and 321 to end at 968. The Hornets’ total was the best among the three Big Sky Conference schools in the tournament.
Parkes posted the low round on the team in both the second and third rounds. After an opening-round 85, she fired 78 in the second round on Monday before Tuesday’s 76. Her three-round total of 239 placed her just four strokes out of the top 10.
Emily Longcrier was second on the team at 82-79-79-240 to tie for 19th. Senior Margaux Sheehan shot 83-80-82-245 to tie for 33rd and junior Heather LeMaster tied for 41st at 78-82-88-248. Junior Kim Coppin rounded at the field at 88-89-84-261 to tie for 74th.
Sacramento State will have two weeks off before traveling to Goodyear, Ariz., for the Big Sky Conference Championships on April 16-18. The Hornets have led all Big Sky teams in their last two tournaments and are in search of their first women’s golf title.
