PALAVIVATANA SHOOTS CAREER LOW TO LEAD WOMEN'S GOLF AT HAWAII

KAPOLEI, Hawaii — Led by freshman Sagee Palavivatana the Sacramento State women's golf team is tied for seventh place following the first two rounds of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Monday.
Palavivatana shot rounds of 77 and 73 and is tied for 19th overall with a 36-hole total of 150. The North Highlands, Calif., native's second round score was her lowest of the season by three strokes.
Senior Julie Shutler shot 78-76-154 and is tied for 30th place while freshman Samantha Stockton carded rounds of 83-73-156 to tied for 38th.
Freshman Lexie Hall and junior Kercia Brakel are tied for 48th and 53rd, respectively. Hall shot 83-76-159 and Brakel shot 79-83-162.
The tournament features some of the best teams in the country, including top-ranked UCLA. The Bruins jumped to a large lead on the opening day, shooting 288-278-566 and are 10-under par. Washington and Florida International are in second place but are 18 strokes back.
Sacramento State moved into a tie for seventh place with a strong second round. After shooting 317 in the opening round, the Hornets shot 298 in the afternoon.
UCLA's Lee Lopez holds a one-stroke lead over San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegert for the individual lead. Lopez shot 68-71-139 while Ziegert fired 69-71-140. The pair were two of six golfers to shoot under par.
