10/3/2011

Women's Golf Team

DAYTON, Nev. —
Freshmen Lexie Hall and Sagee Palavivatana each shot 76 to lead Sacramento State in the opening round of the Wolf Pack Classic on Monday at the Dayton Valley Golf Club.

Hall shot 38 on the front nine and 38 on the back while Palavivatana shot 36-40. The pair are tied for 13th place and are seven strokes off the mark of UC Irvine's Sarah Baek and Wyoming's Juanita Rico.

Monday was originally scheduled for 36 holes but the second round was postponed until Tuesday due to high winds which gusted in upwards of 30 miles per hour. The second round is now scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. but there is a 60 percent chance of rain in the afternoon.

UC Irvine holds a two stroke edge in the team standings. The Anteaters shot 298 as a team and are trailed by Wyoming (300). San Francisco (301), host Nevada (305) and Montana (306) complete the top five. Sacramento State is seventh after shooting 308.

Kercia Brakel is tied for 17th in the individual standings following a round of 77. Senior Julie Shutler is tied for 27th after shooting 79 and freshman Samantha Stockton shot 81 to tie for 41st.
