SAMANTHA SAFFOLD NAMED BIG SKY CO-GOLFER OF THE WEEK

OGDEN, Utah — Coming off her first collegiate victory, senior Samantha Saffold was named the Black Clover Co-Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Week. Saffold shared the honor with Portland State's Lauren Taylor.

Playing at the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Challenge, Saffold was the tournament medalist after winning a one-hole playoff. The Sacramento, Calif., native opened the tournament with a 1-under 72 and then followed with an 81 which left her tied with Cal Poly's Alex Phillips. The pair headed to the 18th hole where Saffold carded a par to claim the individual title.

Saffold leads Sacramento State this season with an average of 79.00 in 17 rounds. She has placed in the top four of her last two events and is averaging 75.5 in those four rounds.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Chandler, Ariz., on April 6-7. The event will be held at the Ocotillo Golf Resort which will also be the site of the Big Sky Championships in mid-April.
