ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. — Sacramento State senior Samantha Saffold defeated Alex Phillips of Cal Poly in a one-hole playoff to become the medalist at the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Challenge on Friday at the Cypress Ridge Golf Club.

Saffold relied on an even-par first round along with an 81 on Friday to shoot 153 in the 36-hole event. The senior then recorded a par of the par-4 18th hole in the playoff while Phillips carded a bogey. The victory was the first for Sacramento native during her collegiate career.
