BRAKEL POSTS LOW ROUNDS FOR WOMEN'S GOLF AT FRESNO STATE LEXUS CLASSIC

FRESNO, Calif. — Kercia Brakel recorded back-to-back rounds of 80 to guide the Sacramento State women's golf team in the first day of the Fresno State Lexus Classic at Copper River Golf Club.
As a team, the Hornets are in 13th place with a 36-hole total of 328-325-653. UC Davis leads the 16-team field after shooting 295-306-601.
Brakel had the low score for Sacramento State in both rounds. The sophomore, who is tied for 38th, is one stroke ahead of teammate Julie Shutler. Shutler shot 81-80-161 and is tied for 44th. Freshman Ellese Dias is tied for 57th with rounds of 84-80-164. The team also counted scores of 83-85-168 from Samantha Saffold.
San Francisco's Katrina Hegge is the individual leader after day one. Hegge shot 73-72-145 and holds a 1-stroke lead.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
