SAFFOLD FINISHES TIED FOR 10TH AT CAL POLY INVITATIONAL TO LEAD TEAM

 ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. — Samantha Saffold shot 77 in the second round of the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational to lead the Sacramento State women's golf team. The senior finished the tournament with a 36-hole score of 153 to tie for 10th place.
The Hornets shot 312 in the second round and ended the two-round tournament with a total of 631. That score placed the team in a tie with host Cal Poly for sixth place out of 17 teams. Northern Arizona shot 310-302-612 to capture the team title. The Lumberjacks' Alexa Kim was the medalist with rounds of 77-73-150.
Saffold was the only Sacramento State golfer to record two rounds in the 70s. The Del Campo High School graduate now leads the team with an average of 79.30 in 10 rounds.
Sophomore Kercia Brakel shot a personal season-low 76-80-256 to tie for 21st. Freshman Ellese Dias tied for 36th with rounds of 83-78-161. Junior Julie Shutler carded an 84-78-162 to tie for 45th while fellow junior Justin Chen shot 84-79-163 to tie for 45th.
The tournament was the final event of the fall season for Sacramento State. The Hornets return to action at the Fresno State Invitational on March 7.
