CHEN RECORDS BEST ROUND BY A HORNET AT ANTEATER INVITATIONAL

DOVE CANYON, Calif. — Sophomore Justine Chen shot 75 to lead the Sacramento State women's golf team in the final round of the Anteater Invitational on Tuesday at the Dove Canyon Country Club.

The Hornets finished 14th in the field with a final score of 325-316-317-958. The event served as the final tune-up for the team before the Big Sky Conference Championships which will take place on April 19-21 in Chandler, Ariz.

Chen overcame a tough first day to produce the best round by a Sacramento State golfer in the tournament. The Lake Forest, Calif., native began her day on the 15th hole and was 4-over through her first four holes and 5-over after six. From that point, Chen played the remaining 12 holes at 1-under. After two pars, Chen birdied the par-4 fifth before consecutive bogeys. She ended her round with a par on 8, a birdie of the par-5 9th, a bogey on the par-3 10th, birdies on the par-5 11th and par-4 12th and pars of both 13 and 14. For the day, she played the four par-5 holes at 2-under.

Julie Shutler ranked second on the team during the day and had tied for 32nd for the best overall finish among Hornet golfers. The sophomore shot 83-76-77-236 in her 54 holes. Shutler's round on Tuesday was comprised of two birdies, nine pars, six bogeys and a double-bogey.

Senior Brooke Green tied for 50th overall after shooting 80-79-81-240. Kercia Brakel carded rounds of 81-78-84-243 to tie for 60th and Annie Becker was 71st at 81-83-85-249.

San Diego State maintained its first day lead to win the team title. The Aztecs shot 300-299-300-899 to finish six strokes ahead of San Francisco. The rest of the top five consisted of Kentucky (912), UC Irvine (914) and Long Beach State (915).

Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro shot 68 for the only under-par round of the day and vaulted to the top individual finish. Mortellaro shot 71-75-687-214 and to top UC Irvine's Hillary Packard (73-70-74-217).
