GREEN LEADS WOMEN'S GOLF AT HAWAII TOURNAMENT

KANE'OHE, O'ahu — Sacramento State senior Brooke Green shot 77-77-75-229 to lead the women's golf team to an eighth place finish at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Tuesday.

Green was the only Hornet to finish among the top 20 as the senior tied for 14th overall. She was followed by Samantha Saffold and Julie Shutler who each tied for 28th. Saffold opened her tournament with a round of 84 but bounced back with a 75 in the afternoon round on Monday and a 76 on Tuesday. Shutler led the team in the opening round at 75 but finished with back-to-back rounds of 80.

Sophomore Justine Chen tied for 51st with a total of 81-79-80-240. Freshman Kercia Brakel tied for 65th with a 54-hole total of 79-85-81-245.

Fresno State's Louisa Lies ran away for the individual title. Lies shot 66-76-74-216 and was five strokes ahead of Nova Southern's Sandra Changkija, who was second at 74-74-73-221.

Rollins won the team title with a total of 904. The Florida-based institution edged Nova Southeastern by one stroke and was followed by San Francisco (906), Fresno State (910) and Nevada (922) in the top five.

Sacramento State concluded the tournament at 312-311-311-934. The team had the best score among the three Big Sky teams in the field, bettering Northern Colorado (970) and Weber State (989). The Hornets next compete at the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., beginning on March 26.
