3/4/2010

OGDEN, Utah — Sacramento State’s Julie Shulter has been selected as the Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Week after tying for sixth place at the Fresno State Lexus Classic.

Shutler, a sophomore from Manteca, Calif., finished the 54-hole tournament with a three-over-par 219. She opened on Monday with an even-par 72 and followed with a 73. In Tuesday’s final round, she shot 74. Her total was the second best of her career and the fourth best in Sacramento State history. Shutler is averaging a team-best 75.4 shots per round in 2009-10.

Shutler helped Sacramento State to a 10th-place finish in the 14-team tournament. The Hornets carded rounds of 308, 301 and 310 for a 919. UC Davis won the tournament played at the Copper River Country Club in Fresno with an 880. Cristina Corpus of San Jose State took medalist honors with a 214.

This is Shutler’s second Player of the Week honor this season and the third of her career.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational hosted by Hawaii on March 15-16.
