SHUTLER LEADS WOMEN'S GOLF IN THE FIRST DAY OF HAWKEYE INVITATIONAL

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Sophomore Julie Shutler shot rounds of 77 and 78 and is tied for 19th overall to lead Sacramento State following the first day of action at the Hawkeye Invitational. As a team, Sacramento State was in 11th place when the second round was halted due to darkness. The tournament will resume on Sunday with the end of the second round and the final round.

Illinois has the team lead as the Illini are 30-over. Iowa State is two strokes behind and Missouri State is eight back. Sacramento State is 61-over but has four of its five golfers in the clubhouse.

Shutler is followed by fellow sophomore Justine Chen who shot 80-79-159. Junior Samantha Saffold tied Shutler with the low round in the morning but posted an 83 in the afternoon for a 36-hole total of 163. Freshman Kercia Brakel shot 84-83-167 and Brooke Green recorded an 80 in the morning and is 11-over with five holes to play.

Iowa State's Pennapa Pulsawath is the leader at 1-over. Pulsawath shot 74 in the morning and is 1-under in the afternoon through 13 holes.
