WOMEN'S GOLF IN THIRD, GREEN TIED FOR THIRD AT WYOMING COWGIRL CLASSIC

CHANDLER, Ariz. — The Sacramento State women’s golf team is in third place following the first two rounds of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Monday at the Ocatillo Golf Resort. The Hornets shot 309-312-612 and are trailing only Northern Arizona (309-296-605) and Fresno State (303-306-609).
Junior Brooke Green led the team in the opening round, posting a round-best score of 70. Green added a round of 80 in the afternoon and is tied for third place overall with a 36-hole score of 150.
Northern Arizona’s Bethany Leclair shot 77-69-146 and leads Montana State’s Kelly Gillum (76-72-148) by a pair of strokes.
The tournament features all nine Big Sky Conference schools and serves as a tune-up for the conference championships which take place later this month at Ocatillo. Among Big Sky schools, NAU and Sacramento State hold the top two spots. The rest of the field is comprised of Montana State (625), Portland State (628), Montana (636), Northern Colorado (644), Weber State (646), Eastern Washington (653), and Idaho State (681).
Freshman Justine Chen ranked second for the Hornets and is tied for 10th place after Monday. Chen shot 77-76-153. Sophomore Samantha Saffold is tied for 27th with rounds of 83-75-158. Saffold’s second round was the best on the team.
Freshman Julie Shutler is tied for 51st at 80-82-162 and fellow freshman Sasha Cruz shot 82-81-163 and is tied for 59th.
The tournament concludes with a single round on Tuesday.
