GREEN SHOOTS 71 TO LEAD A MUCH-IMPROVED DAY FOR WOMEN'S GOLF

DOVE CANYON, Calif. — Junior Brooke Green shot a 1-under 71 to record the sixth-best round of the day and lead the Sacramento State women’s golf team in the second round of the Anteater Invitational on Tuesday. Green’s score coupled with her opening round 81 ties her for 15th place with 18 holes to play on Wednesday.

As a team, Sacramento State is in ninth place with a two-day total of 631. Idaho and UC Davis are tied for the top spot with a score of 597 and are followed in the top five by San Francisco (599), Long Beach State (602) and UC Irvine (614). The Hornets were able to lower their team score by 21 strokes from the opening round and have built at least a 22-stroke lead over the other three Big Sky schools in the tournament.

All five Sacramento State golfers improved their score from Monday. Green and freshman Julie Shutler were each able to drop 10 strokes to make the most significant jump. Freshman Justine Chen is tied for 17th overall and ranks second on the team with scores of 78-75-153. Shutler moved into a tie for 37th at 87-77-160. Sophomore Samantha Saffold is tied for 52nd at 84-82-166 and junior Annie Becker is tied for 58th at 87-82-169.

UC Irvine’s Jane Chin, who is ranked seventh nationally, and UC Davis’ Chelsea Stelzmiller are tied for the individual lead. Both golfers shot 69 on Tuesday and have a 36-hole total of 141.

The tournament will conclude on Wednesday with the final round.
