WOMEN'S GOLF SIGNS KERCIA BRAKEL TO NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT

11/14/2008

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women’s golf team signed Lodi High School senior Kercia Brakel to a National Letter of Intent, it was announced today. Brakel will enroll at the University as a freshman in the fall.

“We are very excited to have Kercia join our program,” Sacramento State Director of Golf David Sutherland said. “She is an off-the-charts good kid and a talented player that brings experience to the team.”

As a senior, Brakel helped Lodi to both the San Joaquin Athletic Association title and the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section crown. She was the medalist at both events after shooting 79 at the SJAA tournament and 75 at the sub-section meet to tie for top honors. Brakel also placed 10th at the Sac-Joaquin Section tournament with a 77 and helped the Flames to an eighth place finish.

Brakel has also played well in individual events, winning twice in Junior Golf Association of Northern California (JGANC) premiere events. She also finished first at the college combine.

Sacramento State, which won the Big Sky Conference title in 2007, does not lose a senior from this year’s team. The Hornets most recently finished second at the Cal Poly Invitational and will resume their schedule in February.
