WOMEN'S GOLF PLACES SECOND AT CAL POLY, RECORDS HIGHEST FINISH OF THE YEAR

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. — The Sacramento State women’s golf team recorded its highest finish of the season by placing second at the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational on Tuesday. The Hornets shot 301-309-610 and finished only behind San Jose State in the team standings.
Junior Brooke Green paced the team on Tuesday with a round of 76 despite cool temperatures and high winds. Green ended the 36-hole tournament at 75-76-151 and tied for 10th place overall.
Sophomore Samantha Saffold matched that total with 73-78-151 and finished one stroke ahead of freshman Justine Chen (14th, 74-78-152). Fellow freshmen Julie Shutler (79-77-156) and Hayley Holloway (82-85-167) finished 32nd and tied for 72nd, respectively.
San Jose State won the team title at 295-303-598. Sacramento State was followed in the top five by UC Riverside (300-313-613), Cal Poly (299-315-614) and Bradley (303-314-617). Tuesday’s scores were significantly higher as Boise State was the only school to improve its total from the first round (322-315). The field also included Big Sky foes Northern Arizona, Weber State and Idaho State.
Xavier’s Mary Beth McKenna was the medalist with a total of 69-74-143. She was three strokes ahead of UC Riverside’s Jennifer Bermingham and San Jose State’s Cristina Corpus, who tied for second with a total of 146.
The event marked the final competition for Sacramento State during the fall season. The team will return to action in February.
