SHORT-HANDED WOMEN'S GOLF FINISHES SIXTH AT BIG SKY PREVIEW
4/10/2008
PHOENIX, Ariz. — Sacramento State senior Erica Yoshino shot 79 and finished tied for sixth at the Big Sky Conference Preview, Thursday at the Foothills Golf Club. The one-round, 18-hole event, was hosted by the Big Sky Conference and gave the teams a look at the course that will host the Big Sky Championships later this month.
The Hornets were limited to just four players and finished in sixth place with a team total of 327. Northern Arizona shot 314 to finish first and was followed by Montana (315) and Eastern Washington (317) in the top three.
Yoshino was the only player in the Sacramento State lineup to shoot in the 70s. The senior shot 40 on the front side and added a 39 on the backside of the course. Kim Coppin and Brooke Green tied for 21st after both posted rounds of 82. Annie Becker was two strokes back and tied for 33rd.
The Hornets were playing without the services of senior Heather LeMaster and freshman Samantha Saffold. The pair owned the lowest scoring averages on the team heading into the tournament and are expected to return for the championships.
Northern Arizona’s Ali Carter was the medalist with a three-over 75. Montana’s Alyssa Williamson finished second with a round of 76.
Sacramento State will have a couple of weeks off before returning to Phoenix for the Big Sky Championships, April 21-23.
