WOMEN'S GOLF PLACES NINTH IN FINAL FALL TOURNAMENT

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. — The Sacramento State women’s golf team shot back-to-back rounds of 319 to finish in ninth place at the Lamkin Cup/Cal Poly Invitational on Tuesday at the Cypress Ridge Golf Club
The Hornets shot 638 as a team and finished 40 strokes behind tournament champion UC Riverside (299-299-598). The Highlanders pulled away from a three-stroke lead heading into the final round and ended up six strokes better than Northern Arizona and Cal Poly who tied for second. Santa Clara (609) and British Columbia (621) rounded out the top five in the 18-team field.
Individually, Sacramento State was led by sophomore Brooke Green who shot 77-80-157 to tie for 28th overall. Senior Kim Coppin was one stroke behind at 80-78-158 and tied for 31st. Erica Yoshino tied for 33rd at 78-81-159 and freshman Samantha Saffold tied for 50th with rounds of 84 and 80 to complete the scorers for the Hornets. Sophomore Annie Becker, who has not played in a tournament since the fall of 2005, competed as an individual and shot 79-82-161 to tie for 36th overall.
UC Riverside’s Jennifer Bermingham was the medalist with rounds of 68 and 74. Her first round score broke the women’s course record and she was able to hold off Northern Arizona Sophia Choi and Dakin Banta and Santa Clara’s Miki Ueoka who all tied for second with a two-round total of 145.
The tournament was the final fall event for Sacramento State. The team will resume its schedule on Feb. 25 at the Fresno State Invitational.
