SAFFOLD LEADS WOMEN'S GOLF IN FINAL ROUND OF LADY AZTEC FALL CLASSIC

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — Freshman Samantha Saffold shot 75 to lead the Sacramento State women’s gold during the final round of the Lady Aztec Fall Classic on Tuesday. Saffold’s 36-hole total of 153 tied her with teammate Brooke Green for 23rd place overall.
As a team, the Hornets finished in ninth place with rounds of 306-318-624. UC Irvine maintained its first-round advantage and finished at 593. The Anteaters were followed by East Tennessee State and Hawai’i who tied for second place at 603. Eastern Washington moved into fourth place at 612 while Middle Tennessee State and Cal State Northridge tied for fifth at 613.
After posting five scores of 78 or better on Monday, Saffold was the only Sacramento State golfer to come in below 79 during the final 18 holes. The freshman was trailed during the round by Green, who shot 79. Kim Coppin finished 77-80-157 to tie for 45th, Heather LeMaster shot 77-84-161 to tie for 60th and Erica Yoshino fired 78-85-163 to tie for 67th.
Patty Chawalitmetha of UC Irvine was the individual medalist after shooting 70-72-142. She was three strokes ahead of Cal State Northridge’s Krystina Gillenwater, who was second.
The Hornet women will next compete at the Cal Poly Women’s Invitational beginning on Nov. 5 in Arroyo Grande, Calif.
