YOSHINO LEADS WOMEN'S GOLF AFTER FIRST DAY OF BRONCO FALL INVITATIONAL

KUNA, Idaho — The Sacramento State women’s golf team battled frost and high winds during the first two rounds of the Bronco Fall Invitational but finished the day in fourth place overall on Monday. The Hornets shot 331 in the first round before recording a 315 in the second round. Their two-round total of 646 trails only Nebraska (618), Kansas State (621) and Wyoming (633).

Individually, Erica Yoshino was the most consistent player for Sacramento State, shooting two rounds of 80 to tie for 16th place. Freshman Samantha Safford shot 83-78-161 and is tied for 20th. Junior Heather LeMaster struggled with an 85 in the first round but bounced back in the afternoon to lead the team with a 77. Her second round also included the lone eagle during the first day of play. Senior Kim Coppin and freshman Brooke Green rounded out the lineup. Coppin is tied for 32nd entering the final round with rounds of 84 and 80 while Green sits in 37th at 84-83-167.

Kansas State’s Michelle Regan holds the individual lead after 36 holes with a total of 76-75-151. Her score is three strokes ahead of Nebraska’s Allison Stewart (81-73-154).

As a team, Sacramento State easily surpassed the five other Big Sky Conference schools in the field. The Hornets, who won last season’s league title, are at least 21 shots ahead of Portland State, Weber State, Montana State, Montana and Idaho State.

The three-round tournament will conclude on Tuesday at the Falcon Crest Golf Club.
