SHEEHAN LEADS WOMEN'S GOLF AT KITAHARA FRESNO STATE INVITATIONAL

FRESNO, Calif. — Led by a round of 73 from Margaux Sheehan, the Sacramento State women’s golf team tied its fourth-lowest round in school history at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational on Tuesday. The Hornets shot 621 at the Copper River Country Club and finished the 36-hole tournament tied for 11th.

After shooting 78 on Monday, Sheehan finished tied for 14th with a stellar final 18 holes. The Anchorage, Alaska, native tied for the sixth-best round of the day and was four strokes ahead of her nearest teammate. Junior Emily Longcrier shot 76-77-153 to tie for 21st overall and record the second best mark on the team. Senior Jennifer Parkes tied for 41st at 77-79-156, Kim Coppin tied for 75th (81-80-161) and Heather LeMaster tied for 85th (83-83-166).

Host Fresno State shot 299-297-596 to take the team honors. The Bulldogs had three players shoot 74 or better and edged UC Irvine by two strokes.  Long Beach State’s Kay Hoey was the medalist after shooting 74-72-146.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Bobcat Desert Classic beginning on March 12.
