LONGCRIER PACES WOMEN'S GOLF IN FIRST ROUND OF LADY BRAVEHEART CHALLENGE

BEAUMONT, Calif. — Junior Emily Longcrier shot 78 and is tied for eighth place following the first round of the Lady Braveheart Challenge on Monday. The two-day tournament, which is hosted by UC Riverside, will conclude on Tuesday at Oak Valley Golf Club.
As a team, Sacramento State is in fourth place following the first 18 holes. The Hornets shot 324 and are trailing San Diego State and UC Davis who are tied atop the leaderboard at 309. Cal Poly is currently third with a first-round score of 319.
Longcrier was one of three Sacramento State golfers to shoot 39 on the front nine on Monday. The junior was joined by senior Margaux Sheehan and junior Heather LeMaster. However, Longcrier took the team lead on the back nine with another 39. Sheehan is currently one stroke back at 79 and Erica Yoshino is five strokes behind with an 83. LeMaster finished the day with a 45 on the back nine to drop into a tie for 46th with Kim Coppin. Both golfers shot 84.
UC Davis' Bryana Gregory and Sydney Roughton are tied for the individual lead with an even-par 72. UC Riverside's Jennifer Birmingham is one stroke back in third place.
