ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. --- Sacramento State senior Margaux Sheehan shot 75 in the opening round of the Firestone Grill-Cal Poly Invitational on Monday. Sheehan is tied for sixth place while the Hornets sit in third with a team score of 306.
UC Davis holds the team lead at the halfway mark of the tournament. The Aggies shot 299 and are two strokes ahead of UC Riverside. Kelsey Fischer of UC Davis and UCR''s Alliso Ek are tied for the individual lead with a 1-under 71.
Sheehan shot 38 on the front nine and added a 37 on the back half to tie UCD''s Sydney Roughton. Sacramento State was also helped by strong showings from Heather LeMaster and Emily Longcrier. Both players shot 76 and are tied for eighth. Senior Jennifer Parkes completed the scorers for the Hornets with a round of 79.
The two-round tournament will conclude on Tuesday morning.
