SHEEHAN IN THE LEAD FOLLOWING FIRST DAY OF WOMEN'S GOLF TOURNAMENT

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. --- Sacramento State senior Margaux Sheehan opened the 2006 season in impressive fashion, shooting 73 and taking the first round lead at the NAU Mountain Shootout on Monday.

Sheehan shot 38 on the front nine and recorded a 35 on the back side to finish at even par. Anna Booth and Maki Kamimura of San Diego State and Julia Heath of Cal Poly are one stroke back in second place.

As a team, the Hornets are in second place with a team score of 308. Cal Poly holds the lead after the first day at 302.

Newcomer Erica Haney ranks second for Sacramento State with a round of 77 to tie for 8th. Emily Longcrier and Jennifer Parkes are tied for 19th at 79 and Heather LeMaster added an 81.

The Hornets are one of three Big Sky schools competing in the event. Host Northern Arizona is in fourth place at 318 while Idaho State shot 328 to tie for seventh.

The two-round tournament concludes on Tuesday.
