LeMASTER LEADS WOMEN'S GOLF IN FIRST ROUND OF BIG SKY CHAMPIONSHIPS

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Sophomore Heather LeMaster shot 74 and is tied for third after the first round of the Big Sky Conference Championships to lead Sacramento State on Monday at Palm Valley Golf Club.

As a team, the Hornets shot 308 and are tied for fourth place. Montana holds the lead following the first day as the Grizzlies shot 298. Eastern Washington and Portland State are tied for second at 307. Northern Arizona matched Sacramento State at 308 while Montana State (311), Idaho State (322) and Weber State (323) round out the eight-team field.

The Hornets were consistent throughout the round as all five players shot 79 or better. Junior Margaux Sheehan is tied for ninth overall, after firing a 76. Juniors Jennifer Parkes and Emily Longcrier and sophomore Kim Coppin are all tied for 19th at 79.

Montana State''s Kelly Gillim shot 70 and holds a three-stroke lead following the first day. Gillum shot 36 on the front nine and followed with a 34 on the back. Jasi Acharya of Montana is second at 73 while four players are tied for third. That list is comprised of LeMaster, Krista Swanson and Mary Hasselberg of Montana and Eva Yoe of Eastern Washington.

The second of three rounds will take place on Tuesday. The tournament will conclude on Wednesday. The winning team will receive an automatic berth into an NCAA Regional.
