WOMEN'S GOLF FINISHES SECOND AT BOBCAT DESERT CLASSIC

GOODYEAR, Ariz. --- Northern Arizona shot 311 in the third and final round of the Bobcat Desert Classic to edge the Sacramento State women''s golf team by one stroke on Wednesday at the Palm Valley Golf Course.

The Hornets, who led following the first two rounds, shot 322 on Wednesday and finished the three-round event at 938. Montana (939), Eastern Washington (940) and North Texas (944) completed the top five.

Sophomore Kim Coppin tied for seventh to lead the team. Coppin shot 73-78-83-233 to finish seven strokes behind NAU''s Sophia Choi who was the medalist at 75-76-75-226.

Sophomore Emily Longcrier finished 16th with a total of 235. Junior Margaux Sheehan had the low round on the team on Wednesday with a 78 and moved into a tie for 24th. Junior Jennifer Parkes shot 75-85-82-242 to tie for 38th and sophomore Heather LeMaster tied for 54th with a total of 248.

The second place finish was the third for the team this year. The Hornets previously finished second at the La Quinta Mountain Shootout and the Lady Aztec Fall Classic.

Sacramento State will return to action next Monday at the Colby Classic hosted by Santa Clara. The final tournament of the year will come in mid-April when the Hornets return to Goodyear, Ariz., for the Big Sky Conference Championships.
