COPPIN AND WOMEN’S GOLF ATOP THE LEADERBOARD FOLLOWING FIRST ROUND

PHOENIX, Ariz. ---- Sacramento State sophomore Kim Coppin shot 73 and holds a 1-shot lead following the first round of the Bobcat Desert Classic on Monday. Coppin’s score helped the Hornets shoot 301 and gave the team a six-stroke lead heading into the second round.

Sacramento State’s team score ranked as the third best in school history. North Texas sits in second at 307 while Oral Roberts shot 310 and is third. The three-round tournament will conclude on Wednesday.

Coppin’s round, which was the best of her career, featured four birdies. Junior Jennifer Parkes and sophomore Heather LeMaster are currently tied for fourth after shooting 75. Junior Emily Longcrier shot 78 and is five strokes off the lead while junior Margaux Sheehan fired a 79.
