WOMEN'S GOLF TIES FOR EIGHTH AT FRESNO STATE INVITE

FRESNO, Calif. --- Kim Coppin shot a second-round 76 and Heather LeMaster ended the tournament at 73-77-150 to tie for 27th to lead the Sacramento State women’s golf at the Kitahara Fresno State Invite at the Copper Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday.

The Hornets ended the tournament in a three-way tie for eighth place after shooting 299-308-607. UC Irvine, which had the lead following the first day, went wire-to-wire to win the team title at 285-286-571. Long Beach State, New Mexico State, San Jose State finished in second through fourth, respectively, while host Fresno State and Oregon State tied for fifth. Sacramento State, Hawaii and Oregon were just seven strokes out of the top five as each team finished with a two-round total of 607.

Coppin bounced back from a rough first day to lead the team on Tuesday. The junior finished one stroke ahead of teammates Jennifer Parkes and Emily Longcrier for the team lead. Overall, the team was consistent as three of the squad’s five golfers had their two scores differ by only four strokes or less.

Parkes was second on the team with a two-round total of 151 to tie for 32nd. Junior Marguax Sheehan shot 75-78-153 to tie for 47th. Longcrier and Coppin rounded out the five. Longcrier had a total of 157 to tie for 63rd while Coppin’s combined score of 159 tied for 71st.

UC Irvine’s Selanee Henderson was the medalist with rounds of 67 and 70. Hayley Wilkinson paced Long Beach State’s second-round charge with a 69 and finished the tournament in second with a total of 143.
