FRESNO, Calif. --- Jennifer Parkes shot a 1-under 71 to lead the Sacramento State women’s golf team into fourth place in the first round of the Kitahara Fresno State Invite, Monday at the Copper Ridge Golf Club.Parkes shot 37 on the front nine and added 34 on the back nine and finds herself four strokes off the lead of UC Irvine’s Seanee Henderson who shot 67. Heather LeMaster and Margaux Sheehan are also in the hunt. LeMaster shot 73 while Sheehan tallied 75.
As a team, the Hornets opened on the back nine and were three under following the first nine holes. However, from the point, high winds and rain hampered play leading to Sacramento State shooting 10-over.
UC Irvine holds the lead at the midway point of the two-round tournament after shooting 285. New Mexico State is second at 294 followed by Long Beach State (296), Sacramento State (299) and San Jose State (300).
Weather permitting, the tournament will conclude on Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
