SHEEHAN, BOWEN LEAD WOMEN’S AND MEN’S GOLF AFTER FIRST DAY

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- Margaux Sheehan shot 73 in the first round of the Cal Poly Invitational and John Bowen fired rounds of 73 and 74 at the Bill Cullum Intercollegiate to lead the Sacramento State women’s and men’s golf teams, respectively, on Monday.

The Hornet women currently sit in fourth place as a team with a first-round score of 311. UC Davis leads the 14-team field with a 297 while Santa Clara (302) and Portland (310) round out the top three. The two-round tournament will conclude on Tuesday at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Individually, Sheehan is tied for third following the first day. Danielle Cvitanov of UC Davis leads with a first-round 70 while Allison Wong of Cal Poly is second at 72. Emily Longcrier is second among Sacramento State golfers after shooting 78 which ties her for 18th. Jennifer Parkes is tied for 21st with a 79 while Erica Yoshino shot 81 to tie for 39th. Kim Coppin completed the lineup with an 82 to tie for 43rd.

The men’s team shot rounds of 310 and 312 and currently sits in 11th place, 37 strokes behind Holy Names (296-289). Cal State San Marcos (298-288-586), Pacific (300-296-596), Utah State (295-302-597) and UCLA (301-296-597) complete the top five. The third, and final, round comes on Tuesday morning in Simi Valley, Calif.

Charles Chae of Holy Names has the clubhouse lead following rounds of 73 and 66 on Monday. Eric Nilsson of Southern Utah is second after carding 69-71-140.

Bowen is tied for 11th and is followed by Chad Wood who shot 77-79-156. Cody Miller is tied for 56th at 80-79-159 and Brian Miller shot 80-80-160 to tie for 59th. Thomas Steinhoff had rounds of 80 and 86 to tie for 69th.
