WOMEN’S GOLF REMAINS IN SIXTH PLACE AT BIG SKY CHAMPIONSHIPS

GOODYEAR, Ariz. --- Sacramento State’s Kim Coppin moved into a tie for sixth place after the second round of the Big Sky Conference Women’s Golf Championships on Tuesday at the Palm Valley Golf Club. Coppin shot a second-round score of 78 and stands at 152 following the first 36 holes. The final round will come on Wednesday.

As a team, the Hornets remained in sixth place after shooting 319. Portland State totaled 311 on Tuesday and holds a 10-stroke lead over Montana State (310). Northern Arizona shot a second-round low 304 to move within one stroke of MSU. Eastern Washington (618), Montana (619), Sacramento State (629), Idaho State (632) and Idaho State (656) sit in fourth through eighth respectively.

Tuesday’s rounds were affected by high winds which saw the scores rise considerably compared to the opening round. Northern Arizona freshman Sophia Choi moved into first place with her second-straight round of 71. Sarah Tiller, who led following Monday and is the 2005 Big Sky Golfer of the Yer, shot 74 on Tuesday and sits one stroke back. Coppin is the lone Hornet in the top 10, sitting in a four-way tie for sixth place at 152.

Coppin’s 78 was the best score for the Hornets on Tuesday followed by 79s from Sarah Kuykendall and Margaux Sheehan. Kuykendall moved into a tie for 21st while Sheehan is tied for 27th. Jennifer Parkes who shot 76 on Monday added an 83 on Tuesday to drop into a tie for 25th place while Kathryn Cotter is alone in 38th at 82-87-169.
