SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- The Sacramento State men’s and women’s golf teams each completed play at their respective tournaments on Tuesday afternoon. The men finished in 18th place at the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate while the women were 11th at the Fresno State Invitational.Overall, UC Davis shot 879 to win the men’s event. That score was eight strokes ahead of second-place Washington State and 44 strokes better than the Hornets. Host Fresno State shot 918 to finish 11 strokes ahead of Long Beach State and 81 strokes above Sacramento State on the women’s side.
For the men, Brian Little and Brandon Kingsolver each shot 232 to lead the way for the Hornets. Little shot 76-78-78-232 while Kingsolver fired rounds of 77-73-82. John Bowen had the best third round on the team with a 73 on Tuesday. The tournament was played at LaPurisima Golf Club in Lompoc, Calif.
The Hornet women were guided by Sarah Kuykendall and Jennifer Parkes who each had a three-round total of 247. Kuykendall led the team following the first day with rounds of 80 and 84 and added an 83 on Tuesday. Parkes shot the best round of the day for Sacramento State on Tuesday with an 81 to accompany opening day scores of 82 and 84. Heather LeMaster also added an 82 on Tuesday for Sacramento State.
UC Davis’Louie Bishop was the medalist of the men’s tournament after shooting 77-71-69-217. Bishop’s 69 on Tuesday tied for the tournament low. The women’s tournament was won by Kay Hoey of Long Beach State. Hoey, who led following Monday’s play, shot 77-68-71-216.
The men’s tournament was their final competition of the season. The women will complete the year at the Big Sky Championships on Apr. 18-20 in Phoenix, Ariz.
