SANTA CLARA, Calif. --- Senior Sarah Kuykendall shot 74 in the first, and only, round of the Colby Invitational and finished in a three-way tie for second place. The second round was halted midway due to heavy rain.On Monday, Kuyendall shot three-over to tie UC Riverside’s LeAnh Nguyen and British Columbia’s Jana Haggins. Courtney O''Neill of UC Riverside finished first with a one-over 72.
As a team, Sacramento State finished in sixth place, 18 strokes behind UCR. The Highlanders shot 302 to win the tournament while Northern Colorado was second at 311. The Hornets tallied 320 in the first round.
Behind Kuykendall were four other Sacramento State golfers who were closely bunched. Margaux Sheehan shot 81, Kathryn Cotter 82, Heather LeMaster 83 and Jennifer Parkes 84.
Sacramento State opened the second round strong as freshman Heather LeMaster was even through eight holes and Kuykendall was also beginning to pull closer to first place before the rains began.
The Hornets will next compete at the Fresno State Tournament on April 4-5.
