ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. --- The Sacramento State women’s golf team finished in fourth place and the men’s team in 10th at the Fidelity National Title Invitational. The tournament was hosted by Cal Poly at the Cypress Ridge Golf Club.After shooting rounds of 330 and 329 on Monday, the Hornets ended competition with a 327 on Tuesday to conclude the tournament at 986. Eastern Washington shot 315-324-319-958 to win the team title. Cal Poly (319-327-319-965) and UC Riverside (319-330-319-968) finished in second and third, respectively.
UCR''s Kimberly Feliciano held on to her first-day lead by shooting 79 on Tuesday. Feliciano ended the tournament at 76-80-79-235, two strokes ahead of Eastern Washington’s Andrea Folk.
Sacramento State''s Tracy Nichols and Mackenzie Francis, who were each tied for second after the first two rounds, finished tied for fourth and tied for sixth, respectively. Nichols shot 81-78-80-239 while Francis posted 80-79-81-240. Christy Ferrero (86-85-82-253) also finished in the top 20, alone in 19th.
Host Cal Poly held off Cal State Bakersfield to win the men''s team title. The Mustangs shot 279-282-286-847 to edge the Roadrunners by three strokes. Sacramento State (300-311-312-923) finished in 10th place.
After shooting back-to-back rounds of 66, Travis Bertoni of Cal Poly shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday and was the medalist. Bertoni ended the event six strokes ahead of the nearest competitor.
Tanner Makimoto and Bryan O''Malley led the Hornets by posting identical scores of 72-76-75-223 to tie for 22nd.
The tournament marked the final event for the men during the 2003 season. The Sacramento State women will conclude their season next week at the Big Sky Championship. The three-round event will be held on Apri. 21-23 in Goodyear, Ariz.
