WOMEN’S GOLF PLACES FIFTH IN FIRST TOURNAMENT OF THE YEAR

MONTEREY, Calif.— The Sacramento State women’s golf team opened its 2002-03 season with a fifth-place finish at the Golf Mart/Lady Otter Invitational. The two-round tournament was held at Black Horse Golf Course on Sept. 23-24.

Mt. San Antonio College took home the team crown with a two-round score of 643. The University of British Columbia (659), Cal State San Marcos (682), Southern Nazarene (689) and Sacramento State (692) rounded out the top five.

Moah Chang of Mt. San Antonio was the medalist. Chang shot back-to-back rounds of 77 to finish three strokes better than Chico State’s Shelbie Jasper. Mackenzie Francis was the Hornets’ top finisher. Francis placed 16th with a two-round total of 169 (88-81). Courtney Cotter (18th) was the team’s other top 20 finisher. Cotter ended the tournament with a total of 172 (83-89).
