WOMEN’S GOLF SECOND, MEN 11th AFTER FIRST DAY OF COMPETITION

SACRMANENTO, Calif.— The Sacramento State women’s golf team currently sits in second place and the men’s team is in 11th after the first day of competition at their respective tournaments. The women’s team tallied a score of 316 and trails Cal State Northridge (310) by six strokes after one round at the Colby Invitational. The men’s team totaled a two-round score of 601 and is 23 strokes off the pace set by St. John’s at the Anteater Invitational. Both tournaments will conclude with a single round on Tuesday.

The women’s team was led by Tracy Nichols who is tied for second with a first-round score of 75. Christy Ferrero shot 79 while Audra Mason and Lindsey Oleksa shot 80 and 82, respectively.

The men’s team was paced by senior Bill Hurwitz. The Sacramento native is tied for ninth with a two-round total of 145. Hurwitz shot 73 in the first round and 72 in the second and is three strokes behind Jesse Fitzgerald of St. John’s and Torey Edwards of Long Beach State for the lead. Zach Spinuzzi (152), Kyle Davis (153) and Craig Callens (154) rounded out the Hornet lineup.
