WOMEN'S GOLF SITS IN 11TH AFTER TOUGH FIRST DAY OF ANTEATER INVITATIONAL

DOVE CANYON, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's golf team got off to slow start at the Anteater Invitational and is in 11th place following the first day of competition. The Hornets shot rounds of 316 and 314 to finish the first day at 62-over par. The tournament concludes with a single round on Tuesday.

The Hornets were not the only team to post high numbers during the opening day. Sacramento State finds itself one stroke behind fellow Big Sky foes Portland State and Montana in the team standings and are 34 strokes off the pace of leading Washington State.

The Cougars shot 299-297-596 and hold a two stroke lead over BYU. Cal State Fullerton (607), UC Irvine (610), Idaho (611) and Long Beach State (611) complete the top five.

Individually, Julie Shutler had the best day among the Hornet golfers. Shutler and Justine Chen each shot 78 to tie for the team low in the morning round. Shutler then followed with a 76 and is tied for 23rd place overall.

Chen is tied for 31st with back-to-back rounds of 78. Freshman Sagee Palavivatana fired rounds of 79-80-159 and is tied for 43rd. Kercia Brakel is tied for 51st following rounds of 81 and 80. Freshman Lexie Hall rounded out the team scores at 89-85-175 to place 79th.

Washington State's Lindsay Harmon and UC Riverside's Amelia Ek are tied for the individual lead at 145 (3-over).
