SHUTLER'S 70 LEADS SECOND ROUND CHARGE BY WOMEN'S GOLF

INDUSTRY HILLS, Calif. — Senior Julie Shutler shot a 1-under 70 to help the Sacramento State women's golf team surge during the second day of the Folino Invitational on Monday.
Shutler moved into fourth place with a round that featured two birdies, 15 pars and a bogey. Shutler began her day by parring the first seven holes before birdying the par-4 8th. She moved to 2-under after a birdie on the par-3 13th followed four consecutive pars. Shutler's lone miscue of the day came on the final hole where she bogeyed the par-5 18th.
Through two rounds, Shutler is now 6-over (78-70-148) and is now six strokes behind Montana's Tara Green who moved into the lead with a second-round 68.
Gonzaga extended its team lead with a second-round best 303. The Bulldogs stand at 604 and are followed by Cal State Fullerton (608) and Montana (609) in the top three. Sacramento State is tied with Cal Poly for sixth place with a two-round total of 632.
Justine Chen and Kercia Brakel each carded rounds of 79 to tie for the second best score on the team during the day. Chen's front nine featured a birdie, five pars, two bogeys and a double-bogey. She settled down a bit on the back nine with four pars and five bogeys.
Brakel's stood at 5-over through her first 10 holes but then ran off five straight pars. A double-bogey in the par-4 16th stopped the streak and she closed her round with bogey and par.
Freshman Lexie Hall provided the final score towards the team total with an 80. Hall had one birdie, eight pars, eight bogeys and a double-bogey.
