PALAVIVATANA LEADS WOMEN'S GOLF IN FIRST ROUND OF FOLINO INVITATIONAL

INDUSTRY HILLS, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's golf team began its spring season on Sunday at the Folino Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The Hornets shot 324 and are in ninth place with two rounds remaining.
Sacramento State was led by freshman Safee Palavivatana who shot 76 and is tied for 11th place. Palavivatana had the most consistent round on the team carding one birdie, 11 pars and six bogeys.
Julie Shutler ranked second on the team with a 78 to place her in a tie for 22nd. Shutler was even through four holes with the help of two birdies and finished the front nine at 3-over. However a pair of double-begeys to begin the back half of the course derailed her round despite her playing the final seven holes at even par.
The remaining two scores that counted toward the team total came from Lexie Hall and Kercia Brakel who each shot 85 to tie for 51st.
Gonzaga took the team lead with a total of 301. Cal State Fullerton ranks second after the first day with at 304 while Long Beach State and Montana are tied for third with a 311.
Gonzaga's Genavive Dodge shot a 1-over 73 to take the individual lead.
The tournament continues with the second of three rounds on Monday.
