BECKER FINISHES SECOND; WOMEN'S GOLF FOURTH AT JULI INKSTER MEADOW CLUB COLLEGIATE

FAIRFAX, Ariz. — Julia Becker capped a tremendous two days by shooting an even-par round of 72 and finished alone in second place at the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Collegiate on Tuesday. Becker shot 71-69-72-212 during the event which left her one shot off the school record which she shares with two others.

Sacramento State entered the final round with a one-shot lead over Tulsa for the tournament lead. However, the Hornets shot 10-over par as a team on Tuesday and dropped to fourth place. Rutgers rallied behind medalist Harriet Allsebrook to win the team title by four strokes. The Scarlet Knights finished with a three-round total of 868 and were followed by Cal (870), San Jose State (872) and Sacramento State (873).

Becker played the third round with three birdies and three bogeys. She was even on the front nine with the help of birdies on the par-4 seventh and ninth. The senior moved below par for the first time during the round following a birdie on the par-3 11th. She returned to even with a bogey on the par-5 13th and close with five consecutive pars.

Nishtha Madan posted her second straight round of 73 and closed the tournament tied for 21st overall at 76-73-73-222. Madan got off to a quick start with a birdie on her first hole (No. 3) and another on the par-3 fifth. A double bogey on her next hole took her back to even where she remained until a birdie on the par-5 ninth. Madan played the back nine at 2-over with bogeys on Nos. 15 and 16.

Sydney Smith tied for 35th with three rounds of 75. Smith had bogeys on two of her first three holes but battled her way back to even with birdies on the par-4 seventh and par-5 ninth. The freshman placed her third birdie between two bogeys early on the back nine and moved to 2-over with a bogey on No. 17. After three pars, she ended her round with a bogey on the par-4 third.

Sofie Babic and Corinne Viden each shot 78 during the third round. Viden bogeyed the first two holes and then rattled off nine straight pars. She jumped to 6-over with a double bogey on the par-4 12th and bogeys on Nos. 14 and 16. Viden, who tied the school record with a 67 in the first round, tied for 14th overall at 67-74-78-219. Babic tied for 29th at 75-71-78-224. Her third round featured two birdies, six bogeys and a double bogey.
